Making the year abroad less scary!

Lizzie Fane is the young linguist and entrepreneur who has set up ThirdYearAbroad.com, a website dedicated to making the year abroad less scary for students going on a study or work placement as part of their degree. Lizzie set out to provide the sort of information and support for students that she would have liked on her own Year Abroad in Italy. On TYA, students can share experiences, find out about their destinations in the online guidebook and follow tips on how to make the best of their time away. There is even a section for parents!

TYA also does a lot to promote languages and the link between languages and employability. You can find out about multilingual celebrities and read the 100 case studies from graduates talking about the value of the Year Abroad in their careers and personal life – these reports were collected as part of a project to support languages carried out by the British Academy and the University Council for Modern Languages.

Read more about Lizzie’s activities in her blogs on TYA.
