Based on the true story of Rita Atria, this film is about a 17 year old Sicilian girl who decides to break the code of silence and testify against the Mafia. Her story is told in a very matter of fact way without falling into sentimentality or being judgmental. We see her growing up in her Mafia dominated environment; we witness with her the assassination of her father, when she is still a young child, and a few years later we see her lose her brother, too. We are inspired by her moral courage; we admire her when she becomes a key witness in the Maxi Trial of Palermo (1986-1992) and we totally understand her when she says that “maybe our world will never be an honest one, but nobody can stop us from dreaming.” A powerful thought-provoking film.
