Following a recent series of visits from groups of researchers and academics from Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) in Siberia, Modern Languages is pleased to welcome a further group who are participating in a course on “Teaching and Learning through the medium of English” here at the University’s Avenue Campus, from Monday 13th October to Friday 24th October 2014. We welcome the group to the University and wish them an enjoyable time with us!

This week, the English Language section together with LLAS in Modern Languagesare hosting a course in Professional English for a visiting group of teaching staff from the University of Aarhus in Denmark. ‘Teaching in higher education through the medium of English’ courses

The University of Southampton will be running a number of courses in “Teaching in higher education through the medium of English” over the coming year. Dates for the next two courses are 20th–24th January 2014 and 31st March–4th April 2014.

Chris Sinclair, Director of the English Language Programme in Modern Languages at the University of Southampton, recently attended a three-day conference in Segovia, Spain on the theme of English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) in Higher Education, organised by the British Council.

Centre for Global Englishes seminar: “Researching English as the lingua franca of global higher education”

The next Centre for Global Englishes (CGE) seminar will take place on Wednesday 4th December from 5:00pm – 6:30pm in Building 65, Lecture Theatre C. At this session, a panel of speakers will address the theme: “Researching English as the lingua franca of global higher education”, discussing in particular their work exploring the use of English in universities in different parts of the world.
