Still places for students on free language courses this semester!

Don’t miss your chance to sign up for a free language course this semester! For courses starting in the week beginning 10th October, there are still places in the following courses:
Beginners (no prior knowledge of the language required): Russian 1a; Chinese 1a; Arabic 1a; Portuguese 1a; Farsi (Persian) 1a
Pre-intermediate (for improvers – please note you will need to have already completed a beginner’s course in the language): German 2a; French 2a
Intermediate (please note you will need to have completed a pre-intermediate course e.g. GCSE in the language): Spanish 3a; French 3a; German 3a
Advanced (please note you will need to have completed an intermediate course such as an A-Level in the language): Spanish 4a; French 4a; German 4a

Please ensure that you have chosen the correct level before you book and that you have the time to complete the course. The next series of intensive language courses for the Southampton Language Opportunity will take place from 11th-15th April 2016. Spaces still remain for Portuguese 1a.

The Southampton Language Opportunity offers University of Southampton students the chance to learn a new language free of charge alongside their degree. All the courses are aimed at beginners, and consist of 20 hours of learning in total.

The Southampton Language Opportunity currently still has places available for language courses starting in the week beginning Monday 25th January, in Arabic 1a, Portuguese 1a, German 2a and Russian 1a. The Southampton Language Opportunity, which offers students the chance to learn a new language free of charge alongside their degree, is also running a new 6-week course in Intercultural Communication.

Southampton Language Opportunity

The Southampton Language Opportunity is offering a new range of language courses for students in the new academic year, giving students the chance to learn a language free of charge alongside their degree.

The classes do not offer a formal qualification or provide credits, but are ideal for those wanting to start a new language or polish up on previous skills. Languages being offered from October 2015 include French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Greek, Ancient Greek, Latin, Russian, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Portuguese, Arabic, and Polish. Students will be able to book onto courses during Freshers’ Week.

Free language courses for new Southampton students

This academic year, the University is offering all new students the chance to study a language for free through a new scheme called the Southampton Language Opportunity. This scheme will enable students interested in language study to choose from a range of languages and types of course to undertake alongside their degree programme.
